Articles by Alan Mitchell March 25, 2000 First let me start out by thanking you for visiting EyeTweaks.com. I have a short story which that I wanted to share. Saturday morning I awoke from my sleep feeling quite relaxed but the phone was already ringing It was my employer requesting I go in early and fix a computer problem which had occurred over night. As I rush in I thought what a wonderful day, and what a waste it would be to simply sit inside all day. So on the way out the door I grabbed (as I often do) my digital camera. My drive is a sweet little 25 minute trip to work each morning. But this morning was different the sun was shining and the birds singing, as I was thinking how wonderful this day was going to be (after all at this time it still was only 7am.) I looked upon a lake which really had never caught my eye before and speculated that if I had the urge this is where I would stop later to take photos. And continued driving. After working for over 5 hours and most of the day. I finally got an opportunity to leave by this time it was well after one in the afternoon but the sun was as magnificent as previously perhaps even more so now that it had warmed from the chilly 40 to up and over 70 this fine day. As I approached the lake I remembered the camera, so I stopped. Nothing much to look at really, no flowers, no wildlife that I could easily spot. It left me felling a little disappointed and so I wandered seemingly, aimless for about 30 minutes wondering to myself, now why I had even bothered to stop. Just as I turned to leave I had an urge to walk a little further then I saw it. At first my heart sank, till I reached down and lifted him up in my hands and saw his little arms flay a little then his head moved slightly as I turned him over. For a moment there was no movement then a little and then more. It was a turtle. seems somehow he had come to be upside down in a small pool of water, enough to completely cover his shell. In his efforts to right himself he had become exhausted and could no longer even move his legs and was drowning. As I stood there holding him watching his little eyes open and close with what seemed like a thank you smile back to me. I couldn't help thinking that this whole day had been for him. At that moment I felt complete with the pictures I hadn't gotten and the time which I had spent working which placed me right where I needed to be at that very moment. And I was thankful. Here's a picture of the little fellow. It took several hours for him to recover in which he was released. Alan Mitchell Be sure to visit me at EyeTweaks.com
